The Blackhawks (21-34-5) played shortly after trading forward Patrick Kane, the second-leading scorer in their history, to the New York Rangers in a three-team deal that included the Coyotes. Karel Vejmelka made 23 saves and Travis Boyd, Barrett Hayton and Jack McBain scored for the Coyotes (21-30-9), who had lost two straight following a nine-game point streak (5-0-4). Clayton Keller had two assists. Andreas Athanasiou scored for the Blackhawks, who lost their second straight in as many days after winning five in a row.
