Chicago White SoxDetroit Tigers 0 – Chicago White Sox 3

Highlights:  Two weeks on the sideline gave Mike Clevinger time to address what was hurting him. And it wasn’t just his wrist. Clevinger and four relievers combined on Chicago’s fourth shutout, Tim Anderson scored a run and drove in one, and the Chicago White Sox beat the  Detroit Tigers 3-0 on Friday. Clevinger pitched three-hit ball over five innings in first start since May 17. He threw 73 pitches, striking out six and walking one after being sidelined because of inflammation in his right wrist. Read more at:  (AP)

Chicago CubsChicago Cubs 2 – San Diego Padres 1

Highlights:  Jameson Taillon pitched effectively into the sixth inning, Dansby Swanson  homered among his three hits, and the Chicago Cubs beat the San Diego Padres 2-1 on Friday night in the opener of a four-game series. Taillon (1-3), who came in winless over his previous eight starts with an 8.04 ERA, kept the Padres batters off-balance twice through their lineup and earned the win. He gave up three hits and one run in a season-high 5 2/3 innings. Read more at:  (AP)

Chicago SkyChicago Sky 76 – New York Liberty 77

Highlights:  Breanna Stewart banked in a go-ahead shot with 7.1 seconds left and the New York Liberty rallied to defeat the Chicago Sky 77-76 on Friday night in Courtney Vandersloot‘s return to the Windy City. Chicago called a timeout to set up a final play. Courtney Williams was short on a jump shot and Marina Mabrey grabbed the offensive rebound but she couldn’t get off a quality shot before the buzzer.  Read more at:  (AP)
