Kansas City Royals 3 – Chicago Cubs 4
Highlights: Seiya Suzuki and Miguel Amaya hit solo homers, helping Kyle Hendricks and the Chicago Cubs beat the Kansas City Royals 4-3 on Sunday. Chicago, in position to claim of the NL’s three wild cards berths, won two in a row after losing the series opener. Jordan Lyles (3-14) became the major leagues’ first 14-game loser as Kansas City fell for the fourth time in five games and dropped to 40-86, better only than Oakland among the 30 major league teams. Hendricks (5-6) won for the first time since July 25, allowing one run and five hits in 6 1/3 innings. He retired 10 in a row before his lone walk, to Matt Beaty in the fifth inning. Chicago White Sox 10 – Colorado Rockies 5
Highlights: Lenyn Sosa capped Chicago’s seven-run eighth inning with a three-run homer, and the White Sox beat the Colorado Rockies 10-5 on Sunday to avoid a sweep. The White Sox used a 14-hit attack to improve to 6-11 in August. Andrew Vaughn had three hits, including his 16th homer. Andrew Benintendi also finished with three hits and scored two runs. Connecticut Sun 79 – Chicago Sky 73
Highlights: Alyssa Thomas scored 22 points and moved into second-place on Connecticut‘s career scoring list, and the Sun beat the Chicago Sky 79-73 on Sunday to snap a three-game losing streak. With Connecticut leading by five late in the third quarter, Thomas grabbed a defensive rebound and connected for a three-point play at the other end to pass Asjha Jones (3,336) on the franchise scoring list. Thomas is now at 3,346 — trailing only Nykesha Sales (3,955). Bonner and Hiedeman scored 13 points each and Tiffany Hayes added 12 for Connecticut (22-10). Bonner had eight rebounds and Thomas had eight assists. Kahleah Copper led Chicago with 15 points. Elizabeth Williams had 14 points, Courtney Williams 11 and Marina Mabrey 11.
