Counsell New Cubs ManagerIn a stunning development, the Cubs are hiring Craig Counsell to be their new manager, sources told MLB.com on Monday. The team has not confirmed the hiring. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic was the first to report that Counsell was being hired to replace David Ross at the helm for the Cubs, who fell short of the postseason after a late-season fade this past season. That Chicago pried the 53-year-old Counsell away from the rival Brewers sent shockwaves around the baseball world, with sources telling MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand that it’s a five-year deal worth $40 million, which would make Counsell the highest-paid skipper in MLB history.
