State Farm All-Star Saturday Night
- Kia Skills Challenge (first event)
Highlights: The 2023 NBA All-Star Saturday Night kicked off with the Kia Skills Challenge, and Team Jazz came out with the victory on their home court at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City. Jordan Clarkson, Collin Sexton and Walker Kessler combined to win the Skills Challenge with 300 points after winning the team passing and team shooting portions of the event. Team Rooks of Paolo Banchero, Jabari Smith Jr. and Jaden Ivey won the relay portion to earn 100 points. Team Antetokounmpo, which included Thanasis Antetokounpmo and Alex Antetokounmpo, in addition to Jrue Holiday, also competed in the event and didn’t win a single challenge. - Starry 3-Point Contest (second event)
Highlights: Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard has had an extremely well-decorated career, and he added some more hardware to his collection on Saturday night. Thanks to some elite sharpshooting over two rounds, Lillard won the 3-Point Contest at NBA All-Star Weekend in Utah. By finishing on top, Lillard became the first player in Trail Blazers history to win the contest. Lillard came out firing in the first round while wearing his jersey from his days at Weber State. He scored 26 points in that first round, which was enough to propel him to the finals. - AT&T Slam Dunk (third event)
Highlights: Mac McClung was regarded as a bit of an odd choice to headline the 2023 NBA Slam Dunk Contest on Saturday night. The 24-year-old guard has played in only two NBA games, neither of which came this season. When his participation was announced, fans even mocked the league for failing to convince bigger stars to the once proud event. Well, nobody’s laughing now. McClung stole the show with one of the best Slam Dunk performances in recent memory. Four attempts. Four dunks. Three perfect scores. One trophy. In one night, a player many viewers had never heard of managed to join the ranks of Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter and Michael Jordan in the dunk contest history books.
